Who we are

Before Nomoto ever became a prototype, it began with a question: why do these battery fires spread so quickly, and why can’t they be put out with water? We started by studying lithium-ion battery failures in depth, tracing the problem all the way back to the mechanics of thermal runaway.

From there, we spent 6 months learning directly from firefighters and engaging with landlords, residents, and other stakeholders who who bear the financial, emotional, and physical consequences when these failures happen. Together, that customer and technical research gave us a rare understanding of both how these failures unfold and what a real solution would need to do to work in the world, not just in a lab.

Izzie (left) and Adrian (right) met at Harvard University where they are both pursuing a master’s of design engineering. Adrian has over 5 years of experience in creating consumer hardware. Izzie has 3 years experience in fire systems engineering. Together, we are combining technical depth, systems thinking, and a deep commitment to building safety technology that people can trust.
